The creative economy in the UAE is growing rapidly; therefore, local videographers, podcasters, and production teams are always looking for equipment that will take away the headache of on-location shoots. Sony Middle East and Africa has officially launched the ECM-W5 wireless microphone system in the UAE. The compact system consists of two transmitters and one receiver designed specifically to operate in crowded wireless environments and provide clear audio without dropping out.

One of the greatest benefits for filmmakers working outdoors or at events is the reliability of the transmission. The system provides a stable line-of-sight range of up to 500 meters, which Sony states is approximately three times more stable than the previous generation ECM-W3. Additionally, low latency makes the system ideal for live streaming or quick on-camera interviews where video and audio must align in real-time. Each transmitter has a built-in microphone capable of capturing 96 kHz high-resolution audio. Each transmitter also has a standard 3.5 mm jack so you can use external lavaliers such as the ECM-L1.

If you have ever spent hours trying to fix clipped or distorted audio in an editing timeline, you know how frustrating sudden spikes in sound volume can be. The ECM-W5 addresses this directly by providing 32-bit float audio recording. This wide dynamic range allows creators to capture everything from quiet whispers to loud background applause without having to constantly adjust gain levels on set or worry about audio clipping.

When used on compatible cameras through Sony’s Multi Interface Shoe, the audio feeds digitally directly into the camera body and embeds directly into the video file. This means no messy aux cables hanging off your rig, no external field recorders to carry, and zero manual audio syncing once you drop clips into your editing timeline. To protect important takes, each transmitter also contains 64 GB of onboard memory, allowing you to record up to 90 hours of standalone backup audio internally.

The system integrates seamlessly into modern solo-creator and multi-camera setups. By using the Multi Interface Shoe, the camera can power the receiver directly, turning on and off along with the camera body so you never accidentally leave it draining power. For shoots involving multiple voices, the ecosystem can expand up to four audio channels in-camera by adding an additional transmitter, complete with internal timecode features to keep multi-camera angles locked together.

Monitoring also receives a wireless upgrade, allowing creators to connect compatible Sony wireless headphones directly to monitor audio levels without cords tangling around the camera cage. The transmitters provide up to 11 hours of battery life and have a dust- and moisture-resistant design for long days out in the desert or on busy city streets. An included USB Type-C adapter also allows creators to plug directly into smartphones or laptops for quick voiceovers and video calls.

The ECM-W5 system is expected to hit UAE shelves toward the end of November with a suggested retail price of AED 1,399, while standalone receivers and transmitters will also be available for separate purchase to accommodate custom production setups.
